Online application gridsql

Hello there,

first of all thanks for all your hard work to put up this great product. it works kinda nice in most situations and I am willing to build with it a nice scalable web application.
I have 2 questions though:
1) can I use gridsql along with pgsql(or mysql) , both community edition, in an application that I'll offer as a saas, or I have to buy a license for it? would be great if I could start with the open source editions since budget is kinda 0 and eventually later on when things start to really kick buy a licence and enjoy the support etc offered.
2) I managed starting up the cluster and works nice quering database using the console utility included or psql included in pqsql server. how can I query the server from other programming languages? am I limmited to the use of JDBC ( and so on Java tech) to query it?

Thanks a bunch and again, keep it up with your good work. the many k $ oracle can be defeated ;)
Claude

Hi Claude,

I believe that GPL2 has a loophole that will allow you to use it in a SaaS environment without purchasing anything. Nonetheless, long term, I would encourage you to purchase support, which would also give you greater influence in prioritizing new functionality, etc.

As for connectivity, GridSQL supports the PostgreSQL communications protocol, so you can use psql, edb-psql, or any PostgreSQL drivers for ODBC, php, etc.

Regards,

Mason Sharp

hey Mason,

thanks a lot for your reply. All day long struggled through the code and figured out that's using the same protocol as pqsql ( nice approach by the way ;) ).

For the long run I'll surely buy a license to be sure eventual bugs are solved in a timely matter when that's needed but as you know, starting is hard especially when funds are missing

Thanks again

Claude
