Hello,

I'm trying to install the one-click Postgres 8.4 installer on Windows XP. The installation proceeds rapidly, but when it gets to a part that says "initializing the cluster, this may take a few minutes" it just hangs. I let it sit for several minutes and it just hangs there with no CPU usage. Eventually I click "Cancel" and it goes through the whole undo installation process.

If I restart the installer without rebooting, it asks for a new data location, then proceeds with the installation. It seems to get further, but at some point it complains that some *.conf file in the data directory cannot be read. The installation then finishes. If I go to the Start menu and try to start the database, a console windows opens and says the start failed and says something about a HELPMSG 2185 error.

I've restarted and retried several times, and it fails the same way every time. Any idea how I can install PostgreSQL on my Windows notebook using the one-click installer?

Thank you!!!

I went back and used the installer for PostgreSQL 8.2. That worked on the first try. Fortunately I don't need to use the latest 8.4 version.
