Error installing postgres

I´ll try to explain my problem with the installation with my poor english. I apologize for the inconvenience.

First of all, my pc has vista home premium and ntfs in the hard drive.

I´m trying to install the program in two different ways. The first is directly from the installation file. I had problems when I was asked for the password because the program didn´t recognize anyone. I could pass it writting "net user postgres password" in the system simbol. The installation goes right untill the end, when the process is aborted with this message:

The spanish phrase says "the initialization of the data base cluster failed"

The second way that I´m trying to use to install the postgressql 8.4 is by the Holdem Manager installation program. This one install itself following by the postgress installation in the same process. In this case the problem comes at the end too, but with a different message:

The number of the problem that it´s not possible to see there is 0000274d/10061 (after connection refused)

I am not sure i can help you much with the second one, but sure will try to resolve the issue you are getting with method 1 i.e. installation using One-Click installer.

I need you to attach the installation log file (%TEMP%\install-postgresql.log).
Are you trying to install on a 64-bit or a 32-bit machine?

I´ve been watching that two links and I´ve been executing all the commands typped right there. And I got only half a prize... the program doesn´t work, but at less it is displayed at services, something that didn´t happen before.

I´m trying to start it, but always appears this message after 2 minutes more or less: "error 1053: the service didn´t respond on time to the requirement of starting or control"

Any idea?

From the installation logs, it is saying you dont have permissions to write in the data directory and some more errors. Can you do the following steps.

i) Uninstall using the uninstaller.
ii) Manually remove the Installation as well as the data directory.
iii) Remove the postgres user as well (if possible).

Try running the latest one-click installer. (v 8.4.3)..

I´ve installed the postgresql 8.3 and, though appeared a message of a "non critical error" at the end of the installation, it seems that works properly. If any problem happens I will post it here.
