Hi there folks... I'm kind of upset here...

I'm looking for a new database engine for my windows desktop application and I tried MySQL first.
But it was so hard to install in windowsthat I decided give postgresql a chance... and for my surprise and hapiness the first instalation I made runned witout any problem. Just perfect, everything working after a few next, next, finish. The OS here was a Vista Ultimate.

But know I'm trying to install it in another PC running windows XP SP 3 and I can't believe I'm receiving and error message that I searched google and almost nothing about it is found.

The message is: Unknown error while running c:\...\postgresql_installer\getlocales.exe
Where ... is the user's TEMP dir.

The message apears just after I double click the installer. No log file is generated anywhere.

What can I do to be able to install the database?

TIA!!

could you please Check, if windows scripting host (WSH) is enabled or not. If WSH script enabled, the Windows Script Host Settings dialog box will popup. If disabled, try to enable the WSH.

Type "wscript" in command prompt for checking the WSH is enabled or not.

Please find more information for WSH using below link:-

Re-run postgresql installer and it will work successfully.

To open temp directory go to run -> type %tmp%

We are running into this error randomly on different systems with the PostgreSQL 8.4.2-1 installer. We've typed "wscript" on the systems where we've seen this error and found that WSH is enabled. Any other ideas why this is happening?

I ran into this exact issue and fixed it by installing the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 redistributable on the machine. After that, Postgresql 8.4.2 installed fine.
