I have also tried to find out how I can unregister and remove my details from the forum, but it doesn't seem possible.

Please could someone tell me how to do this?

Go to :

Forum Index: Click on the forum for which you don't want email alerts. On the bottom of that forum click on the link "stop watching this forum"

I dont want to just stop watching the forum, I want to remove my details from it - is that possible??

Sorry, that's not possible from user end. At the max you can stop receiving emails by changing your email settings in profile page.
